Family, friends, team-mates and others recently joined together to farewell rugby league legend Harry Bath.

"Harry played five seasons in Australia - 1946 and 47 with Balmain and 1957, '58 and '59 with St George - and he was a member of the premiership winning team each year."

"Not only in Australia but in the UK Harry was revered. The 'Old Fox', as he was known, started with Barrow before spending nine outstanding seasons with Warrington."

"When Harry retired from playing he turned to coaching - [Gwen Bath] Harry became known as "The Old Fox" nurturing some of the game's greatest talents [Gwen Bath] Coaching Balmain from 1962-1968,Newtown 1969 to 72. Harry retired and was asked to return to coach St George from 1977 to 1981 and won the premiership in '77 and '79.

One of his players, former St George Captain ('79 Premiership) Craig Young put the thoughts of many who know and love the game - and the man - into words when he said, "Harry Bath was before his time. I see stuff that happens in the game every day and I know it started with the techniques Harry taught us in the '70s."

Harry is survived by his wife Gwen, son Harry and daughter-in-law Kathy, and six grandchildren. His daughter Diane died of cancer in 1996.

Foundation Diane is named for Diane Bath - Gwen Bath and Bob Dwyer are Patrons. Your donation to Foundation Diane in Harry's memory will help generations of people whose lives will be saved, or extended through early and accurate diagnosis of cancer and other diseases.
